PNP Chief Dela Rosa In Favor Of Installing Body Cameras On Cops

PNP Chief Director Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa was in favor of installing body cameras on the police officers in line with proposed House Bill 2741.

On Monday (July 31, 2017), the Director General Bato Dela Rosa of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that he is in favor to the proposed House Bill 2741 filed by Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon.

The House Bill 2741 was urging the police officers to wear body cameras when serving search warrants. The usage of the body cameras will be used as proof that the cops did not violate any human rights of their suspects.

During a press conference in Camp Crame, the PNP chief expressed his support to the bill proposal saying “Yes, pabor ako. Give us the camera and we will wear that.” Although he is in favor of the bill, he would rather purchase firearms for the police officers.

Currently, the cops were under the hot seat after the controversial raid on the residence of Ozamiz City Mayor in Misamis Oriental, which resulted in multiple deaths including Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog, his wife, and 14 others.

The police authorities allegedly cut the cables of the CCTV to prevent the video recording of the raid inside the home of Parajinogs, according to Ozamiz Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog.

The PNP chief admitted that cutting the CCTV cables was wrong, but he was not present during the operation so he can’t yet confirm the allegations. He also explained the CCTV footage, media coverage, and witnesses are some form of evidence during the operation, so cutting the CCTV cables is totally wrong.

“Hindi tama na tanggalin ‘yung CCTV. Kaya nga ‘pag nagse-serve ng search warrant e may kasamang media at taga-barangay…CCTV forms part of the evidence,” said by Dela Rosa quoted by ABS-CBN.

However, Dela Rosa said that it was only his personal opinion and his men already know how to perform their task properly.
