PHLPost Custom Officers Allegedly Overcharging Customer Caught On CCTV

Caught on camera is a PHLPost custom officer allegedly overcharging one of their customers.

Recorded on a camera is a custom officer from Philippine Post (PHLPost) Office Pasay who allegedly overcharged one of their customers over a package they got all the way from Sydney, Australia.

As per the post of the customer herself, Mary Joyce Fabellon Cardenas, on her Facebook account, she shared her experience with the PHLPost customs officer with the intention of making everyone have awareness of it.

The lengthy post of her contained information and details about what happened accordingly to her. Along the viral post and the video she posted and shared are also photos of the officers.

As written on the post, before they must have the package on their mere hands, they have to pay first a charge that costs P4,560 for their package that contains honey and billiard cue.

However prior to the event, they have already paid P3,000 for shipping of the package, thus, they refused to pay.

For a long exchange of debates and disagreements, the officers cut the cost to P2,500. But the couple just don’t want to settle for it.

But then, when the officers realized that they are being filmed, they cut the amount lower to its regular fee which is just only P112 in exchange for the video to be deleted.

As written, “Finally they gave up and agreed to hand over the package for only a regular fee of P112 as long as we deleted the video recording we took during our visit there. (Funny how P4560 can be dropped to just P112).”

Many netizens got furious because of the obvious “corruption”

However, according to Customs Administrative Order (CAO) 02-2016, P10,000 and below are now tax-free.

And on the case of Cardenas, herpachage had a total of 500 AUD or about P19,000 and so, one of the netizens said, “Wala naman sa lugar at hindi ikaw ang claimant talaga dapat. Nang bribe pa yung partner mo na foreigner ng custom official! Declared value 500aud and taxable yun. Kaya dapat lang na magbayad ka Mary Joyce Fabellon Cardenas ! Ang binayaran mo na 112pesos eh postal fee lang. Hindi kasama ang tax na dapat mo bayaran! Gusto mo pa mag tax evade at misdeclaration ka pa!”
