Broadcaster Shared Encounter With Omar Maute, Is The Rebel Leader Still Alive?

A broadcaster had an encounter with Omar Maute.

OMAR MAUTE – Broadcast journalist Maulana Mamutuk claimed that he encountered Maute group leader Omar Maute in the pursuit of rescuing his co-workers.

Based on a recent news report in Inquirer, broadcaster Maulana Mamutuk headed back to Marawi City to save his non-Muslim co-workers in a radio station – Ranao Radio Inc.

In an interview with the source, Mamutuk claimed that while he was on his way to the radio station, all he saw were armed men on the streets. He was asked by them to stop for a some quests.

Based on the report, the broadcaster claimed that he saw Omar Maute. Omar or Omarkhayam is one of the leaders of the terrorist group based on a previous news report.

Mamutuk expressed that he knew it was Omar Maute due to the ‘Wanted’ posters of the rebel leader. According to him, Omar also recognized him as he is on radio and television programs in the city.

The broadcast journalist said that he would have not returned to the place if he knew that the armed men were on the streets. He considers his life as his second life already.

According to Mamutuk, Omar went near him and asked him if he is a Muslim. He said that he responded in the affirmative and told Omar that he is a friend of Cayamora, his father, to ease the situation.

Based on the report, the broadcast journalist asked the terrorist group leader for a photo with him but Omar refused.

He said that Omar also refused to be interviewed and referred him to Abu Hafs, the spokesperson of the group.

The spokesperson put down the speculation that the attack has something to do with the political matters.

He expressed that their desire is for the citizens of Marawi City to sacrifice lives and possessions for the Sharia Law’s total implementation.

Based on the report, opposite to what he thought, the terrorist group allowed Mamutuk to go and get his Christian co-workers. He was even given by Omar the password, “Uztads”, for them to be able to pass through the checkpoints.
