BPI ATM Services Still Offline, Thus Extended Banking Hours

After the ATM services of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has been activated after the glitch, it was again deactivated hours later.

BPI – The Automated Teller Machines network of the Bank of the Philippine Islands was temporarily activated after the glitch but was then deactivated hours after due to surfacing of the same problem.

According to the report of the The Philippine Star, the Ayala-led BPI has activated its banking channels temporarily but only to deactivate it again due the glitch on the system was still unresolved.

It was deactivated because certain transactions of accounts still shows incorrect details.

It had also further added that they needed to close it once again in order ‘to do necessary adjustments’.

Thus, all the branches of the said oldest bank will have to extend their banking hours until 7:30 in the evening in order to cater their more than eight million depositors.

However, the credit cards, remittance, SWIFT, equities, brokerage (BPI Trade), investments and loans would still be functional.

In an update, the BPI said, “You have our commitment that this internal system issue will be resolved satisfactorily. We reassure our clients that the integrity of their accounts will be maintained.”

Cezar Consing, the BPI President and Chief Operating Officer, clarified that the bank was not hacked but instead, it had just suffered from a  glitch as it had ‘picked up a wrong file on Tuesday night’.

The officials of the bank had ensure the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) that they would resolve the problem and that their customers will not lose any amount of money

Nestor Espenilla Jr., the incoming BSP Governor will let the bank first resolve the problem and so then they will conduct an investigation about the issue.

Espenilla said, “For today, the focus is be normal, take care of your customers. But tomorrow we have to talk. First things first, if we come in and they’re managing the problem, they’ll be distracted.”
