Over P52M Cash, P27M In Checks Were Recovered By The Philippine Marines In Marawi City

Over P52 million cash and P27 million worth of checks were recovered by the Philippine Marines upon clearing operation in Marawi City.

On Monday afternoon (June 05, 2017), The Philippine Marines recovered worth P52 millions of cash in a house in Marawi City. The authorities also conducted a clearing operation near Mapandi Bridge also in Marawi and recovered over P27 million worth of checks upon the said operation.

The authorities said that the house they raided was an abandoned machine gun of the Maute terror group. The millions worth of money and checks were turned over to the Joint Task Force Marawi after the inventory for safekeeping.

Marawi City is currently facing a critical situation due to the sporadic gun battle between the government forces and the Maute terror group in Marawi City, which turned the entire city into a chaotic scenery and severely affect most of its residents.

The extended firefight started when the government troops raided the hideout of the Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon. The Abu Sayyaf leader call for reinforcement from the Maute group who fought back the government forces.

President Rodrigo Duterte was forced to declare martial over the entire region of Mindanao due to the extended gun battle and ongoing violence in Marawi City.
