The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed the presence of the relatives of Maute Group in the Metro Manila.
PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that his personnel has identified that some of the terrorists’ relatives are presently residing in Metro Manila.
“Nakatira sila dyan sa Manila at ‘yun nga, babantayan natin sila baka nandyan ‘yung ibang mag-sisibat at lilipat dyan. Kailangan bantayan natin,” Bato said in an interview with Inquirer.
The PNP chief was confirming the earlier statement of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde regarding the presence of Maute Group’s relatives.
“Hindi naman por que relatives sila they’re also violent. They also have relatives here in Metro Manila and in other places also but that doesn’t mean na sila ay radical,” he clarified.
He also assured that the Maute relatives in Metro Manila are “just normal citizens.”
It was in March when the police arrested an alleged member of Maute Group identified as Nasip Ibrahim inside the Salam Compound in Barangay Culiat in Quezon City.
He was supposed to help the suspects in the foiled attempt to blast the US Embassy on Roxas Boulevard in Manila last year.
Meanwhile, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) recorded more than 100 casualties in the ongoing clash between the government force and ISIS-backed Maute Group.
President Rodrigo Duterte had already declared Martial Law in the entire Mindanao due to the conflict in Marawi City. 90% of the city has been claimed by the government force.
