National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon revealed 4 terrible problems in Mindanao, which is more than the Marawi clash and Maute terror group.
Previously, the issue about the extended gun battle between the Maute terror group and government troops in Marawi City becomes one of the major concerns of the Filipinos. He also urged the public to be open-minded about the martial law implementation in Mindanao.
President Rodrigo Duterte declared a 60-day martial law in the entire Mindanao to handle the situation. Martial law has been declared due to the sporadic firefight, which turned Marawi City into a chaotic scenery affecting its residents.
Esperon also explained that the problem regarding the Maute terror group and Marawi clash is not the only issues facing by the Philippines right now. He also said that extremist group like the Abu Sayyaf, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), the leftist New People’s Army (NPA) and illegal drugs syndicates were also threat to the public.
President Duterte has the only one who can determine whether the martial law should be withdrawn or not, according to Esperon. He also told the public to understand the president’s decision and give him the chance to address the threats of terrorism in Mindanao.
The National Security Adviser said that Abu Sayyaf, a Jihadist militant group that is based in the country for over 4 decades was the responsible for the terrorist attack in the Philippines such as extortions, kidnappings, bombings, and assassinations.
Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters or BIFF was involved on the controversial Mamasapano clash or Oplan Exodus, who murdered about 44 SAF troopers.
New People’s Army is an armed communist group formed by Bernabe Buscayno and considered by US State Department as Foreign Terrorist Organization. They were also responsible for attacking the military detachment Cateek town of Davao Oriental.
Illegal drugs syndicate were now being chased by the Duterte administration after launching the crackdown on illegal drugs last year.
