Super Tekla Addresses Gender Identity Amid Ongoing Speculations
SUPER TEKLA – Comedian and television host Super Tekla firmly set the record straight on his gender identity, addressing misconceptions and clarifying the truth once and for all.
Super Tekla has finally addressed lingering speculations about his gender identity. Known for his performances on The Boobay and Tekla Show, Tekla shared that some people still question whether he is truly straight, given his frequent portrayal of female characters on television.
In an episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Friday, February 7, the King of Talk, Boy Abunda, directly asked Tekla if he still encounters doubts about his gender identity. Abunda pointed out that many assume otherwise due to his on-screen persona, where he often dresses as a woman.
Tekla candidly admitted that some people still ask him about his true identity. “May mga mangilan-ngilan. Sabi, ‘Ano ba talaga ang identity mo?’” he shared. He humorously recalled how he once presented himself in a more masculine manner. “Dati kasi, Tito Boy, naging parang ano ako, lalaki, para akong mag-aayos ng aircon. Alam mo ‘yung ganun?”
However, Tekla explained that it was only when he started dressing as a woman for performances that his true comedic character emerged. “’Yung nag-dress up ako ng girl, lumabas ‘yung character ko, so in-embrace ko ‘yun pero I’m totally [a] guy, straight,” he clarified.
Further elaborating in a February 2024 episode of Sarap, ‘Di Ba?, Tekla emphasized that dressing as a woman is purely for entertainment purposes. He explained that in the entertainment industry, adaptability is key. “Ina-adapt ko na lang siya, kasi kailangan mong maging madiskarte rito… Kung kailangan mong sumabay, kung saan ka, wala namang masasagasaan. You have to build your character, you have to build your own identity na ikaw ‘yan,” he said.
Despite his on-screen appearances in female attire, Tekla maintains a masculine presentation in his daily life. He also shared a glimpse into his personal life, revealing that he is a father to three children, including his teenage daughter, Aira.
Through his statements, Super Tekla made it clear that while he embraces his comedic persona for his career, he remains a straight man in his personal life, committed to his craft and his family.
