NEGROS ORIENTAL STATE – In line with the free tuition program of the government, the Negros Oriental State University will implement it and some students may avail it.
The free tuition program was made possible under the Duterte Administration and it will be implemented starting the first semester of the school year 2017-2018.
Based on a recent news report in Politiko, one of those who state colleges and universities that will implement the free tuition for students is the Negros Oriental State University.
However, the free tuition may not be available for all of the students enrolled in the said institution.
According to the news report, NORSU President Joel Limson expressed that the budget allocation from the government is the reason why not all students may avail the free tuition.
The scholars of the Commission on Higher Education and the continuing students are the beneficiaries of the free tuition program based on the report.
Those students who only have one semester remaining are the first priority of the program and they are followed by those who are graduating studs with one year remaining.
Furthermore, the non-graduating students who are beneficiaries of the 4Ps are the third priority in the program and they are followed by the non-graduating students who are part of the Department of Social and Welfare Development’s Listahan 2.0.
The fifth on the list of priorities are the non-graduating students who are ranked based on the money earned.
According to the news report, NORSU registrar Reynil Cadapan expressed that the national government allotted P8 billion for the free tuition program.
113 state colleges and universities around the country will share the budget allocated for the program.
Based on the news report, Cadapan expressed that around 8, 125 students, 39 percent of the student population of NORSU, can avail the free tuition in their institution.
Nevertheless, surely, this is already a big help to many students.
