PNP Chief Director Gen. Dela Rosa promotes cop for being a hero against burglary inside a bus.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa bestowed the promotion of Joselito Lantano who is now a Police Officer 3 for such heroic act to prevent a robbery that was supposed to happen inside the bus he was riding.
On his way home from his duty, Lantano is riding on a bus unexpectant of the crime that is supposed to happen.
According to the report of Cecille Suerte Felipe of the The Philippine Star Global, Lantano narrated that one of the suspects fired the gun pointing proclaiming a robbery.
Despite of the civilian clothes he is wearing and considering that he is not on duty, he took his gun out, fires it and shoots one of the three robbers causing his untimely death. He then nabbed the other two suspects.
Lantano said at that moment he was shaky and nervous for it is possible that he might also be killed at such dangerous confrontation for a gun was also pointed at him. He was thinking of his family and most especially his children who were just at their secondary level.
As soon as he had arrested the other suspects, he ordered the driver to stop for them to ask for help from a nearby police officers on duty.
Dela Rosa on the other hand, advised this statement to his policemen, “In a gun battle, you can win once, twice, thrice but not all the time. There are chances that you would lose not to the point that you become a coward. The best defense is offence.”
Aside from being promoted, Lantano also received a certificate for his new Glock 30 pistol for his “invaluable contribution to the fight against illegal drugs and criminality.”
The promotion of Lantano took place during the flag-raising ceremony at Camp Crame on April 10.
