Series Of Quakes Was Man-Made, Batangas Residents Says
Batangas residents claim that the series of quakes experienced they have experienced last week was synthetic or “man-made” and not caused by nature.
Last week, Batangas has been struck by series of powerful tremors, which causes damaged to its historical church, provincial capitol, some buildings, and establishments in the province. Around P18 million was the estimated initial cost of damaged buildings in the province.
The quake also frightened the residents of Batangas after experiencing numerous aftershocks. The local government of the province urged the netizens to be well-prepared for the possible aftershocks and also to prepare for the impending “Big One” earthquake.
However, the residents of Batangas were claiming that the series of earthquakes they have experienced last weekend was not caused by nature, but it was a synthetic or man-made quake.
The digging conducted by the joint company Basic Energy Corp. and Phinma Energy Corp in building the geothermal plant is one of the possible reasons for series of tremors experienced by the province, according to the residents.
Batangeños explained that they had never experienced earthquakes for about 100 years, so they were shocked after they have been rocked by 2 consecutive earthquakes last week.
The Philippine Institute Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) chief Renato Solidum clarified the suspicion of the residents and disapproved their claims. Solidum also said that the quakes in Batangas last week was caused by an old and unidentified fault.
