State Of Calamity Declared in Batangas Province After Powerful Earthquake
Batangas province is now under a state of calamity after struck by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake on Tuesday evening (April 04, 2017).
On Tuesday night, Batangas and some areas in Luzon including Metro Manila was struck by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake around 8:58 pm. Different earthquake intensities were felt in various places in Luzon, which was followed by series of aftershocks.
Makati City and Obando, Bulacan, Cavite, Santa Ana, Manila, Lucena City, Quezon, Dasmariñas, Gen. Trias, Mandaluyong City, and Quezon City felt, Metro Manila, and Batangas were the areas affected by the powerful quake.
Batangas Provincial Capitol Building, some churches, and establishments in the area have been damaged by the earthquake. There was still no damage expected after the quake, but the residents were advised to be well-prepared for the possible aftershocks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has already recorded around 17 earthquakes as of 1:00 am on Wednesday early morning (April 05, 2017).
On Wednesday morning, Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas declared Batangas under the state of calamity. He also said that the initial cost of damaged building due to the earthquake was amounting P18 million.
Phivolcs also recorded 2 aftershocks with epicenter at Tingloy Batangas, which was felt first around 09:17 pm with magnitude 2.5 quake and the second one was felt around 09:26 pm with magnitude 2.6 earthquake.
The resident affected by the magnitude 5.5 earthquake was immediately run to safer ground. The quake causes panic to the residents and damage in some establishment due to the powerful tremor.
