Lawmakers React Over Duterte’s Stand On Impeachment Threat Against Robredo

The lawmakers react over the stand of Pres. Duterte on impeachment threat against the VP.

LAWMAKERS REACT – Some senators expressed support and appreciation on the stand of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte over impeachment threat against Vice Pres. Leni Robredo.

Pres. Duterte reacted on the impeachment threat against Vice Pres. Robredo over her message to the United Nations. He recognized it as a “democracy” and “Freedom of Speech”.

Based on a recent news report in Inquirer, Senator Joel Villanueva stated in a text message his gladness over the statement of Pres. Duterte.

According to him, Vice Pres. Robredo stated her own view of the “current political and social state” of the Philippines with regards to the war on drugs campaign.

The lawmaker also added that every person is has a right to express ones self as guaranteed by the democracy and freedom.

“We must always protect our democratic space and I am happy that the President recognizes this,” he said according to the report.

Aside from Sen. Villanueva, another senator also expressed his side on the stand of Pres. Duterte on impeachment threat against the Vice President.

Sen. JV Ejercito stated in a text message that “it shows that President Duterte respects the mandate given by the people” and that the President is a “statesman”.

Based on a previous news report, a copy of an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Robredo has already been sent to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

The six-page impeachment complaint was sent by Atty. Oliver Lozano and Melvin Chavez. In a letter sent to the House Speaker asking for the endorsement of the complaint, the Vice President was tagged as the “termite of the government”.

The two grounds that were stated in the impeachment complaint were: “Culpable Violation of the Constitution” and “Betrayal of Public Trust”.

Reportedly, House Speaker Alvarez has once told CNN that he is studying the possibility of filing an impeachment complaint against the Vice President.

He and Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella claimed that the Vice President could possibly be behind the impeachment complaint filed against Pres. Duterte.

Atty. Lozano expressed confidence that the impeachment complaint would pass the careful study of the House Speaker.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Alvarez said that the substance of the impeachment complaint should really be studied.

According to him, he does not want to get embarrassed before the Impeachment Court.
