More Than 50 Percent Of Filipino Drivers Are Stupid, Sotto Says

Senator Vicente Sotto III said that more than 50 percent of Filipino drivers are stupid and will surely fail on an honest driver’s examination.

On Tuesday (March 14, 2017), Senator Sotto said during the hearing on road safety in Senate committee on public services that more than half of Filipino drivers will fail to pass the examination required in other countries in order to acquire a driver’s license.

The senator said that most Pinoy drivers were reckless and stupid, which one of the causes of traffic jams and congestion on the main highway. He emphasized that these drivers were frequently violating laws.

“Terrible. They are not only reckless but they are also stupid, that’s why they will surely fail” and “In a real examination, 50 percent of drivers in the Philippines will fail,” said by Sotto quoted by Inquirer.

Sotto also lambasted the parking of cars along the streets, which worsening the traffic congestion on the road, especially in Metro Manila. The senator also said that drivers could easily get a driver’s license in the country without going through scrutiny.

He urged the officials of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to implement stricter rules and regulation for the issuance and renewal of professional driver’s license here in the Philippines.

The LTO chief andAssistant Transportation Secretary Edgar Galvante admits that there were shortcomings in the qualification process for the issuance of driver’s license, which has been so easy for Filipino drivers to acquire.

Galvante said that they have shortcoming for giving the same examination for professional and non-professional drivers. He said that separate examinations for professional and non-professional drivers will be given as a part of the change in the procedure.

What can you say about Sotto’s distasteful remarks against drivers? Do you really believe that the separate examinations can resolve the traffic problem in the country?
