A municipality in Lanao del Norte lost their health officer after Dr. Perlas was shot by an unidentified person.

Based on a previous news report, the doctor was shot while he was riding his motorcycle on his way to Lala Town. Speaking to Inquirer, Police Chief Senior Insp. Melvin Loquinte expressed that it was along Barangay Maranding Annex when he was shot.

According to Dr. Anjuli May Jaen, the president of the Batch 30 of the Doctors to the Barrios (DTTB) program, the doctor had been getting threats from individuals who he does not know.

The doctor is a native of Batan Town in Aklan Province. He is the eldest among two siblings and is currently 31-year-old.

Based on the report, he was a scholar of the DOH. He graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Baños and Western Visayas State University in Iloilo City.

According to another report, one of the suspects in the death of Dr. Perlas has been shot by the authorities after he tried to escape an arrest. The suspect was identified as Agapito Tamparong Democer, an alleged hitman.

However, the father of Dr. Perlas, Batan Councilor Dennis Perlas, spoke to Inquirer and said, “We should not conclude right away because this could be just to divert us from those really responsible.”

Furthermore, according to him, Democer being known as a “gun-for-hire responsible for many killings” does not “necessarily mean that he is the killer” of his son.
