Over 100, 000 Free Public Wi-Fi To Be Installed Nationwide

The Philippine government is planning to install over 100, 000 free public Wi-Fi sites nationwide as a part of its 10-year internet project.

Most people were very dependent on the internet nowadays, which is a part of technology innovation. The Internet is already a part of our lives, which can be also considered as a necessity in some aspects. Most of us can only access free data when we can’t avail to have an internet connection.

The Philippine belongs to the countries, which has the slowest internet connection. Most Filipinos were suffering from the inconvenience caused by slow connection on the internet.

Free Public Wi-Fi

President Rodrigo Duterte is now making efforts to speed-up the internet connection in the country, to fulfill his promise during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last 2016. He already approves the implementation of the National Broadband Program.

The Philippine government allocates P3 billion for a project, which aims to resolve the poor internet access and connectivity in different regions nationwide. The government is planning to implement the 10-year internet project, which will provide over 100, 000 Wi-Fi sites nationwide.

The government will prioritize the areas in the country, which has no internet connection then free Wi-Fi will be installed in a park, local government unit areas, and municipalities throughout the Philippines., according to Undersecretary Jorge Sarmiento of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

“Sa mga park, plaza sa mga local government unit areas, health centers, pier ang lalagyan ng free public Wi-Fi,” said by Sarmiento quoted by Scoop.

United Nations Broadband Commission for Development shows that the Philippine ranked 64th among the 130 countries in terms of homes with own internet connection last year. 3 out of 10 homes have their own internet connectivity.
