Malacañang Confirmed That There Was An Attempt To Bribe President Duterte

On Tuesday (March 07, 2017), Malacañang Palace admits that there was an attempt to bribe President Rodrigo Duterte, but he rejects it.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that Mr. Duterte has been attempted by some politicians in the past to influence him financially, but he rejects and refused to accept it.

Abella also refused to give further details and information to the reporters if tobacco company Mighty Corporation attempted to bribe the president. The presidential spokesperson also did not give any comments or opinion regarding the matter.

He was also asked if the president has ordered his Cabinet members to conduct an investigation into the matter. Abella replied that let the Department of justice (DOJ) go-ahead for the probe.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo confirmed that President Duterte was attempted to influence by the Mighty Corporation. “During [the] Cabinet meeting last night, President Duterte said [the] owner of Mighty Cigarettes attempted to bribe him ‘with millions,'” said by Panelo quoted by GMA.

Mr. Duterte has ordered the arrest of the cigarette company owner for the economic sabotage, according to Panelo. An investigation will be conducted on Might Corporation for allegedly using fake tax stamps, according to Caesar Dulay, Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Abella also explained that the president prioritizes the anti-corruption, anti-crime, and anti-illegal drugs, so those who attempt to influence Mr. Duterte should be scared.
