China Donates Over 450 Digital Transistor Radios To Philippines
On Monday (February 27, 2017), the Presidential Communications Office received over 450 digital transistor radios from the Chinese government.
China turned over 450 digital transistor radios to the Philippines, as a part of a cooperation agreement between Manila and Beijing. The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar received the donations from Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua.
The donation from the Chinese Governments was a part of the cooperation between the two countries including the executive management training and government media. Zhao also said that programs for the training were designed for the specific needs of Filipino officials.
Previously, China also donated financial assistance for the Filipino typhoon victims. Beijing also promised to increase the infrastructure assistance and already signed trade deals with Manila worth $13.5 billion.
The relationship between the two countries has been strained due to territorial claims on Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. The relationship between China and Philippines were only restored after the state visit of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
Last year, President Duterte declared that the Philippines is cutting its military and economic ties with the United States, after criticizing his war on drugs. The president also decided to strengthen its ties with China.
