Jerusha Willenburg, a 3rd Grade teacher at Mueller Elementary School in Wichita gets a lot of attention after her video was shared on the social media.
The video shows that the teacher is high-fiving and fist-bumping with her students before entering her room.
In an information shared by KWCH 12 Eyewitness News, Willenburg said that she never thought that her simple video with her students could gain such fame on social media.
Teacher Willenborg revealed that she is doing the unique handshakes with her students at the end of the day and she started this routine to connect with her students three years ago.
She continued the traditional handshakes this year at her first at Mueller.
Willenborg said that her purpose of doing the handshakes with her students is to let them feel that she still care about them.
“The kids don’t always make good choices. They are amazing kids, but you know, they’re kids. At the end of the day, they give me their handshake, whether they had a good day or not, they leave that day knowing I still care about them,” says Willenborg.
Harmoni, one of the students of Willenborg said that the handshakes makes her feel like Miss Willenborg has her back.
Willenborg’s unique handshakes video went viral after it has been shared by KWCH12 in their official Facebook page. In fact, the viral video gained almost 54 Millions of views on social media.
The video earned positive reactions from the netizens on the online world.
Many social media users were amazed on how Willenborg connects with her students. Other netizens said that with the relationship that she established with her students, she will be remembered once these children are all grown up.
