To show objection against the order of the government which calls for the phasing out of dilapidated jeepney vehicles, jeepney drivers held a transport strike.
There could be instances when the public or a part of the public does not agree with the stand of the government in a certain matter. That is inevitable. However, every move has its effects.
Recently, a news report entailing about the difficulty that a transport strike has caused to the commuters broke in.
In a recent news report in GMA News Online, it’s stated that a transport strike has been held as an expression of an objection of some jeepney drivers to the order of the government which seeks for the phasing out of dilapidated jeepneys.
According to the news, Dano Tingcungco reported on Unang Balita that around 400 drivers from a transport group are anticipated to join the said transport strike. The drivers were members of Stop and Go Coalition transport group.
Based on the news report, there were commuters who find it difficult to reach their destination due to the transport strike and one of them is Nel Nitapan who was already waiting for a ride as early as 4:30 in the morning.
Nitapan expressed that the drivers should not pursue a transport strike as it causes inconvenience to the public. According to the report, she took a tricycle to get to her destination since she was not able to get for a jeepney ride.
The report also mentioned that there were commuters who just walked going to the places where they are ought to be heading. The Sta. Ana-Faura and Punta-Quiapo routes are affected by the said transport strike.
Based on the report, last month, a transport group, Stop and Go Coalition, expressed that a protest to be held in the Metro Manila and in the provinces near to it is expected to gather around 74,000 jeepneys and lots of UV Express vehicles.
