I am willing to die for the 1987 Constitution, Davide Says

Former Chief Justice Hilario Davide said that he’s willing to block and to die for any move against the 1987 constitution.

Davide, a member of the 1986 Constitutional Commission (ConCom) wanted to block against any move to change the 1987 Constitution. The former chief justice was one of the 1986 Con Com who helped to create the 1987 Constitution.

The 1987 Constitution has also known as post-EDSA 1 Constitution is a pro-God, pro-people, pro-poor, pro-environment, pro-family, and pro-marriage charter. This is the only charter in the whole world, which promotes the true essence of humanity.

1987 Constitution

“I am willing to die for the 1987 Constitution…I would also be willing to die against any moves to amend this constitution,” said by Davide quoted by ABS-CBN.

He also said that some provisions of this Philippine Constitution were even copied by the South African Constitution. He also mentioned the move of Duterte administration to reimpose the death penalty again in the country.

Davide is urging all Filipinos to pray that God would enlighten the mind of the government officials who wants to impose changes in the Constitution. He also told the public that the 1987 Constitution was already more than 30 years.

1987 Constitution

The former chief justice also explained that Duterte administration plans to shift to federalism can divide the country due to its negative effects. The federalism is anti-Filipino and an anti-poor system, according to Davide.

Former Commission on Elections Chair Christian Monsod and former members of 1986 Con Com were also against in changing the 1987 charter. Struggles of Filipino people for justice and democracy was some of the main reason why 1987 Constitution was written.

Davide also suggests to President Duterte of reforming the charter first, instead of overhauling the whole charter. 1986 Con Com member Edmundo Garcia also supported Davide’s appeal in protecting the human rights.
