Batuan or Garcinia Morella is a species of tree that can be usually found in tropical climate countries including the Philippines. It was usually eaten when ripe and it is mixed with other dishes as flavoring to “Sinigang” due to its sour tastes.

This fruit can be also found in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and India. Batuan resembles a smaller and unripe version of the fruit “Mangosteen.” This tree grows abundantly nationwide and usually mixed with vegetable dishes.

In India, dried batuan fruits were used by ancient Indians in treating different types of diseases because of its medicinal properties. It contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can relieve inflammations in the body.

Eating fresh batuan can reduce the cholesterol levels in the body, which is good and has beneficial effects for people who have hypertension. Irritated skin can be cured by resin that can be extracted from batuan by simply applying it on the skin.

It also contains a lot of antioxidants, which fight free radicals from the body that can cause several types of diseases in the body. It is also rich in vitamin C, which can help to boost our immune system and to the overall body’s health.
