Nickelodeon Developer Clarifies: Underwater Resort, Not Theme Park In Palawan

Nickelodeon has drawn flak following its announcement to build an underwater resort and theme park in Palawan, the Philippines’ last ecological frontier

The developer of the planned Nickelodeon attraction in Palawan has made clarification that it is building a resort and not a theme park, as previously reported, in Coron, Palawan.

Nickelodeon, perhaps one of the first words that children learn to know in their early age, was put in hot waters after it announced that it will build an underwater resort and theme park in Palawan, the Philippines’ last ecological frontier.

According to Viacom International Media Networks, owner of Nickelodeon and introduced Spongebob Square Pants and Dora the Explorer, said in an e-mailed statement that their developer Coral World Park Undersea Resorts Incorporated (CWP) said that the report of the Agence France-Presse entitled “Nickelodeon to build underwater theme Park in Palawan” did not clearly reflect the full details regarding the original announcement that they have made.

According to the marketing and communications director of CWP, Susan Lee, reports that a full 400-hectare structure would be built under the water were not accurate.

She also noted there is only a hundred hectare lot allocation for the Nickelodeon facility and another 30 hectares is allocated for its facility.

“There will be no theme park development in Palawan”, Lee said in a statement adding that they has never been any form of communication from their camp talking about building a theme park.

Lee further clarified that reflected in the press release issued by Viacom that their plans are to build a resort and attraction, which includes designing an undersea attraction with a focus on the conservation of ocean.

The developer of the Nickelodeon explained their design, which includes a floating infrastructure in the water and the rest are on land.

The Nickelodeon attraction will be an “undersea themed” Coral World Park which is land based but would be designed and made to meet the international standards required as a global tourist destination.

The company made it clear that despite their development, their major consideration is to meet the environment related standards to promote conservation tourism, renewable energy and category 5 proof architecture.

The underwater resort of Nickelodeon is reportedly scheduled to open in 2020 that would feature restaurants and lounges six meters or 20 feet below sea level.

Viacom’s initial statement said that their “underwater development” would give the tourists a chance to interact with the brand and the iconic characters that they have loved ever since they were kids.
