Last year, the Philippines rejoiced as Miss Universe candidate Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach from PH brought home the crown and amazed the world. Another pride for the country and the Filipinos.

Reportedly, the pageant last year has even sparked headlines and has been the talk of the town for weeks when Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey announced another candidate as the winner and then, later on, corrected it and the crown was given to Wurtzbach.

The incident has also elicited lots of reactions from people as it was really something unexpected to happen.

The next Miss Universe pageant is set to be held in the Philippines and the Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Wanda Corazon Teo, has released the schedule of the events.

The schedule of the events included the pictorial in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, a fashion show, a ‘women empowerment night’, and many more.

Recently, a news report in Inquirer entailing that there would be no more swimming with the whale shark has crossed the surface.

The report stated that because of the concerns raised by the wildlife conservation groups, the DOT has removed it from the schedule of the Miss Universe candidates. Instead, the candidates will get to see the Philippine Eagle on January 19 during their visit to Davao City, the hometown of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro during a news media conference, the DOT has already talked to the environmentalists and affirmed that there would no longer be ‘anything about the whale shark’.

The news report also entailed that the swimming with the ‘butanding’ of the five candidates last December has elicited criticisms from the environmentalists and the netizens.

The DOT Undersecretary has already cleared that it is no longer included in the itinerary of the candidates of the international pageant.
