ESPN.com “Fighter Of The Year” Title Failed To Achieve By Manny Pacquiao
Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao failed to achieve ESPN.com “Fighter of the Year” title this year after overwhelmed by Irish Boxer Carl Frampton.
Pacman was one of the 2016 contenders for the ESPN title over his 2 consecutive victories against Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas. The Filipino boxing superstar previously claimed the ESPN.com title in 2005, 2008, and 2009.
Pacquiao was overwhelmed by Carl Frampton, who shows an impressive performance this year by achieving 2 titles in 2 divisions. The 29-year-old Irish boxer claimed the ESPN.com honor after beating tough opponents and won the junior featherweight and featherweight championship title.
Frampton beat Scott Quigg last February 2016 via split decision. He also claimed his first featherweight title by defeating Leo Santa Cruz last July 2016. “It’s been a great year for myself” and “I’ve fought on the road twice against two good fighters,” said by Frampton on ESPN.com quoted by ABS-CBN.
The Irish boxer hopes that the best is yet to come for him in 2017, after earning the “Fighter of the Year” honor from ESPN.com. Frampton also promised that he will perform better than his performance in 2016.
The Filipino boxer received the fourth spot on the ESPN.com list. Manny was praised over his victory against Timothy Bradley last April 2016 and he also regains the WBO welterweight belt last November 2016 by beating Jessie Vargas.
Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine went to the second place. Vasyl makes Nicholas Waters of Jamaica quit during the seventh round of their featherweight match.
The third place goes to Omaha’s Terence Crawford over his victories against Viktor Postol, John Molina, and Hank Lundy. Crawford was still undefeated and he was also targeted as Pacquiao’s next opponent in 2017.
