Lacson Urges President Duterte To Shift Focus From Drugs To Corruption In 2017
Senator Panfilo Lacson urges President Duterte to shift his focus from war on drugs to corruption in the government and other issues this 2017.
It’s been six months since Mr. Rodrigo Duterte took his office last June 30, 2016. His presidency focuses on the war on drugs and drug-related cases, which becomes as one of the most controversial issues of the year 2016.
The anti-illegal drug campaign of President Duterte amid Extrajudicial Killings (EJK) has been also criticized by different international groups including European Union (EU), United Nations (UN), US President Barack Obama, and other human right groups.
But Senator Lacson said that the president should also pay attention to come important issues in the country such as in eradicating corruption in the government and having a good governance. He also said that if corruption will be eliminated, greater things will be obtained by our country.
The lawmaker explained that the president should rely on Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to do their join addressing the drug issues in the Philippines.
Lacson also said that President Duterte could be the best president of the Philippines if he could learn to be a statesman by developing the good traits of being a national leader and when he discards his old habits when he’s still the mayor of Davao City.
“The bottom line for me is, I want him to succeed because like him as do most Filipinos, I also love my country. There may not be a better gift that my and the President’s generation can bequeath to the next generation than a proud Filipino nation worthy of respect from all the other countries in the world,” said by Lacson quoted by Manila Bulletin.
He also that Duterte could start his search of how to be a real statesman in Google and should use his Singapore’s experience as a role model. He also advised Duterte to recompense the families of the innocent people slain during the anti-narcotics operations by the authorities.
