The first barge terminal to be built in PH soon will link Manila and Cavite.
Manila and Cavite will be linked soon by the first barge terminal to be constructed in the Philippines.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) are the partners in the construction of the terminal according to a recent news report in Pinoy Newz.
Based on the report, it was on the 15th of December when the announcement of the partnership for the construction of the first barge terminal in the country happened.
Cavite Gateway Terminal (CGT) will be the name of the proposed barge terminal. It will link Cavite and Manila Port via roll-on/roll-off (RORO) operations and barge according to the report.
The report further entailed that the operations in the proposed barge will minimize the truck traffic or an estimated one hundred forty thousand truck trips on the road.
Tanza, Cavite is the site wherein the proposed barge terminal will be built. An integration with the other major facilities in Luzon will also be considered by it for a more time-bound and cost-effective access to the market in Cavite.
The high economic density of Cavite is the primary reason why it will be the prime location for projects like the building of the barge terminal.
The $30 Million proposed barge terminal will not cost the Philippine government according to DOTr Assistant Sec. Cherie Mercado.
The ICTSI, a port management company which acquires, develops, manages, and operates container ports and terminals across the globe, will shoulder the $30 Million needed for Phase 1.
Furthermore, aside from the benefits that are eyed to be brought by the project to cargo owners, sustainable advantages for the environment and the society were also emphasized in the report.
As cited earlier, it is eyed to reduce traffic congestion. The reduction will also lead to lower consumption of fuel and carbon emissions will be decreased. Furthermore, many job opportunities will come along with the barge terminal.
