Sen. De Lima received an international award from a political magazine.
INTERNATIONAL – One of the 100 Foreign Policy Global Thinkers who were recognized in Washington D.C. on Monday is a Filipina lawmaker, Sen. Leila De Lima.
The name of Sen. Leila De Lima has begun to be the content of many news headlines when she was accused of having an affair with her former bodyguard and driver, Ronnie Dayan.
Reportedly, it was Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who spoke about it in public. There was already a slight tension between the two even before things led to hearings regarding the involvement of the Senator in the alleged drug trade in the New Bilibid.
Sen. De Lima is one of the most vocal critics of Pres. Duterte on the alleged extrajudicial killings happening in the country. For months, the exchange of statements between the two was intense that it led to deeper investigations of the allegations.
Many names were linked on the issues. Soon after, the lady Senator admitted her affair with Dayan based on a previous news report.
Recently, a news report in ABS-CBN News stated that Sen. De Lima is one of those people who were awarded by an international political magazine. She is one of the 100 Foreign Policy Global Thinkers.
Based on the report, the lady senator received the honor of being a global thinker for “standing up to an extremist leader”. She was one of those who were in the “Challengers” category.
“I’d like to think it’s because of my stance against the extra-judicial killings and other policies ng ating kasalukuyang administrasyon (of our present administration),” Sen. De Lima expressed.
She further added that she dedicates her award to the Philippines and to her fellowmen most especially those who were fighting for the democracy.
