13 – The 13 biggest donors of Pres. Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte gave him P334.8 million of his total fund for the presidential election campaign.

Way back during the election period, Pres. Duterte has shown an image that his campaign for the presidential post was ‘run on a shoestring budget’ according to a recent news report in Phil Star Global.

However, based on the report, the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) that the 71-year-old President has filed with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) shows a different image.

It is stated that big personalities in the field of business have contributed P375 million of the total presidential campaign fund of the then Mayor of Davao City.

Furthermore, the report emphasized that 89.28% of Pres. Duterte’s campaign fund came from his top 13 donors while 0.046% of it came from donors who gave P10,000 and below.

Based on the report, one of the said top 13 donors who have contributed a total of P334.8 million of the campaign kitty is listed in Forbes’ 50 richest Filipinos for 2016. P31.66 million was added to the election campaign fund of Pres. Duterte from donors who gave from P1 million to P3.5 million.

Pres. Duterte secured the highest post with the aid of the ’13 extremely wealthy’ personalities and 18 million-peso donors who have businesses that do transactions with the government according to the report.

The report also entailed that at least six of the donors and the donors’ relatives were appointed to Cabinet and other posts six months after the 71-year-old President took the seat as President of the Republic.

The SOCE of Pres. Rody Duterte has already been reviewed by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ). Other SOCEs that were reviewed and curated as well by the PCIJ were those of the other presidential, vice presidential, and senatorial candidates for 2016 national election.
