Robredo Resigns As Cabinet Member Following Duterte’s Order

Vice President Robredo will tender her resignation on Monday after being told about Duterte’s order for her “to desist from attending all Cabinet meetings”.

Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo announced on Sunday, December 4, that she will be stepping down from her post as a member of the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Robredo said in a statement released on Sunday that she will tender her resignation as Housing Secretary on Monday, December 5.

The statement said that Vice President Robredo received a text message on Saturday, allegedly coming from Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco Jr., that President Duterte instructed through his executive assistant Christopher “Bong” Go for her to “desist from attending all Cabinet meetings” starting Monday.

According to the vice president, if she will be deterred from attending all the Cabinet meetings, it would be impossible for her to perform all her duties as a member.

“Hence, I am tendering my resignation from the Cabinet on Monday, December 5, 2016”, she said in the statement.

But Robredo assured that despite her resignation, the public can still expect her to still support the positive initiatives of the current administration but will oppose those which are inimical to the interest of the people.

However, she emphasized that she will not allow the vice presidency to be “stolen” from her, saying that she “will not allow the will of the people to be thwarted”.

Adding that she “will continue to serve the Filipino family and fulfill their dream for a better life”.

This is following the information that had reached Robredo’s camp that there is a plot to steal the vice presidency. But she chose to ignore the information and focused on the job that she has to do.

But she admits that her radars indicate that the plot is being set in motion.

Vice President Robredo noted that she and President Duterte had major differences in values and principle but she hoped to set their differences aside since they both have the mandate to serve the Filipino people.
