Mother Wants 3-Month-Old Baby Boy Back After Abandoning At NAIA 1

The mother of a 3 month-old baby boy abandoned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal (NAIA-1) wants to claim him back.

On Friday Afternoon (November 25, 2016), the 36-year-old Vilma Pacibas Lastima, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) left her 3-month-old baby intentionally to a stranger in the airport. Vilma decline that she abandoned her baby instead she left her son temporarily for personal matters.

“May pinuntahan lang po ako. Pag balik ko sa airport hindi ko na po makita si (Mercy Bonaobra) yung babae na pinagiwanan ko ng aking anak at passport,” said by Lastima quoted by ABS-CBN.

Vilma approached Mercy Bonaobra, also an OFW to take care of her son temporarily while she leaves for personal matters. Bonaobra immediately reports the incident 4 hours after Lastima left the baby to her, fearing that something might happen to the baby.

Lastima said that she eagerly looks for Bonaobra and her baby but she failed to find them. So she decided to go back to her hometown Maco, Davao City without her son. She claimed that she did not intend to abandon her son.

Lastima’s sister-in-law, Joy Destros said that they didn’t even now that Vilma has a baby and they were surprised when the news comes out that Lastima left her son. Joy also explained that they already feel Vilma’s burden few days before abandoning the baby.

In a phone interview, Lastima wanted to take her son back after she heard the news that her baby was found by the Manila International Airport Authorities (MIAA). The baby was turned over by MIAA to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Ed Monreal, Airport General Manager, said that they are willing to assist Vilma as soon as she arrived in Manila. The airport authority is also glad to endorse Lastima to the DSWD for proper identification for retrieving her son back.
