The DSWD cash assistance under ESCAP has already reached 27, 052 ‘Lawin’ affected families.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has already aided 27, 052 families affected by Typhoon Lawin through a cash assistance under the Emergency Shelter Cash Assistance Project (ESCAP).
The occurrence of natural calamities is one of the inevitable things that could happen anytime of the year and in any place it targets. Usually, above all the natural calamities, typhoon is one that can be considered as a ‘usual visitor’ in most places.
Philippines has already been visited by a lot of typhoons in the past. The nation has struggled hard to put back what’s left of what typhoons might have left behind after the visit. Nevertheless, the government has always tried to aid the affected families.
Recently, a strong typhoon, Lawin, has visited some parts of the country and caused destruction in other areas. Based in a previous news report, Lawin has escalated during its visit. Several families were in great need of assistance after Lawin has left some homeless and some with partially destructed homes.
A recent news report in InterAksyon stated that the DSWD, under the Emergency Shelter Cash Assistance Project, has already aided 27, 052 families affected by typhoon Lawin last November 7-18. It is also stated that an amount of P135.26 million was provided.
Based on the news report, victims of calamities who were left with partially or totally destructed homes are the target recipients of the ESCAP. An initial monetary assistance of P5,000 would be fairly given to every affected family to start the rebuilding of their houses.
7,939 families out of the target 44, 433 households were recipients of the monetary assistance in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 5,304 families out of the 199,993 target households in the Cagayan Valley Region, and 13,809 families out of the 26,554 target households in the Ilocos region.
Furthermore, it is stated that 184 households were given the ESCAP assistance in Central Luzon.
