Speaker Alvarez spoke the side of the House regarding the issue on Sen. De Lima’s alleged interference to probe.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that he will be forced to issue an arrest warrant against Sen. Leila De Lima if she won’t respond to the show-cause order.
Recently, a House probe was held to solve certain allegations regarding illegal drugs. The names Sen. Leila De Lima and Ronnie Dayan are undeniably on the center of the issue that has sparked a lot of headlines and reactions already.
Ronnie Dayan is the former driver and bodyguard of the Senator. He has also been a lover of the then-Department of Justice Secretary as the neophyte Senator has admitted earlier this month.
Aside from being Sen. De Lima’s former driver, bodyguard, and lover, Dayan is also the alleged ‘bagman’ of the Senator. Sen. De Lima has been recently facing allegations that she is involved in the alleged drug trade inside the national penitentiary when she was the head of DOJ.
Dayan was recently arrested in the province of La Union and appeared before the House probe wherein he laid down his claims. Another factor in the appearance of Dayan is the alleged interference of Sen. De Lima.
An alleged series of text messages between the Senator and the daughter of Dayan has been presented to the House. The series includes the advise of Sen. De Lima to Dayan not to attend on the House probe.
To get the side of the Senator, a show-cause order has recently been issued by the House Justice Committee based on a previous news report.
Meanwhile, a recent news report in ABS-CBN News entailed that House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez will be forced to issue an arrest warrant to the Senator in case she won’t respond to the show-cause order.
Speaking on ANC’s Headstart on Monday, Speaker Alvarez said, “I think she has to explain why she had interfered with the House proceedings. Kinakailangan po iyon [It is needed]…”
“I’ll be forced to issue a warrant of arrest,” the House Speaker said in case the Senator will not respond to the order.
Furthermore, the report entailed that Alvarez believes that his fellow House members back him in the warrant as the Senator offended their institution. He also emphasized that the probe was conducted by a ‘legitimate entity’ though it might not be a criminal investigation.
