SEOUL, South Korea – Some online users reacted with disbelief after learning that the office of South Korean President Park Geun-Hye bought 364 performance enhancement pills, Viagra, reportedly for “altitude sickness”.
But some experts say that the performance enhancement pills are indeed helpful for people with altitude sickness to deal with their condition.
Veteran Australian mountaineer Andrew Lock is just one of the high-altitude mountaineers and biochemistry experts who say that the performance pill are being used by climbers to avoid altitude sickness, but its usefulness has yet to be proven clinically.

Lock has climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000 meter peaks. He said that he learned about climbers using Viagra for pulmonary edemas, which occur when there is an accumulation of fluid in the lungs at altitude, a decade ago.
