Filipino-American Community Leader Denies Plan To Impeach Duterte As Philippine President

Loida Nicolas Lewis, a Filipino-American community leader denied her plan to expel President Rodrigo Duterte from his position.

On Friday (November 04, 2016), President Duterte said that a large protest against him was planning by a Filipina widow of a wealthy African-American. Loida described Duterte’s accusation as a complete fabrication and false.

Lewis is the widow of Reginald Lewis, an African-American Wall Street Financier. “I am concerned that the President is being given misinformation designed to divide the country and advance the interests of a certain political group while casting Filipino Americans in an unfavorable light,” said by Lewis in a statement quoted by ABS-CBN.

A letter asking to provide help to Duterte’s war on illegal drugs was sent by Lewis to the new US Ambassador to the Philippines. She wants the US to support the anti-illegal drug campaign of Duterte Administration through drug rehabilitation center.
