Philippines Shifting To Federal System, Under Prime Minister And President

Duterte Prefer Philippines Shift To Federal System

Philippines will shift to a federal system, under the equally shared executive powers of the president and prime minister in the new government model proposed by ex-Sen. Pimentel.

A group of experts is now studying the Philippines’ shift to a federal system in the proposed new government system. In this system, the country will have a dual executive: “President” who is in charge of foreign policy and national security while “Prime Minister” will run the government with his Cabinet officials.

A political science professor, Edmund Tayao, executive director of the Local Government Development Foundation said that it doesn’t matter who is more powerful of the two but their roles in the country matter.

A government model that will suit to the Philippines was now being prepared and studied by Tayao’s group and other experts from at least 20 schools and institutions under the Political Reform Exponents of the Philippines.

Federal System

Starting next year the system of the government will change based on the discussed draft of the “Philippine-style” model. The “proposed change of system” was discussed with Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
