2017 Health Budget Reduced By More Than 50 Percent

Alliance Of Health Workers Condemns Proposed 2017 Health Budget

2017 health budget reduced by more than 50 percent that will cripple public hospitals and patients for direct services will be significantly cut down.

The P74.4 billion health budget last year was reduced to P38 billion this year, which is decreased by more than 50 percent, given by the Department of Health (DOH). The proposed health budget for 2017, was condemned by Alliance of Health Workers, along with its allied hospitals.

The MOOE or Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses in 72 hospitals for 2016 is P5.2 billion. But in 2017 the budget will be only P3.67 billion or less than P1.53 billion, where poor patients who can’t afford the hospital expenses will prevent from going to public hospitals.

2017 Health Budget

Doh issued Philippine Health Agenda 2016-2022, where the three DOH hospitals will be merged into a “mega-hospitals” which does not show a reduction on capital outlay for hospitals. People have been longing to obtain a free medical health but due to the decreased health budget, hospital’s direct services will be cut-off.
