Imee Marcos On Duterte’s ‘Honor List’

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, daughter of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, was listed in the Duterte administration’s “honor list” for being involved in actions against the illegal drug operations in their province.

In a report by Inquirer, Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno submitted the said list to the Malacañang Palace as part of Duterte’s plan to reveal the names of the government officials, policemen, and judges who have been allegedly involved in the drug trade.

Among the listed governors include, Governors Faustino Dy III (Isabela), Jose Alvarez (Palawan), Alfredo Marañon (Negros Occidental), Edgardo Chatto (Bohol), Junie Cua (Quirino),  Hilario Davide III (Cebu), Eduardo Firmalo (Romblon), Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba (Agusan del Norte), and Daisy Avance-Fuentes (South Cotabato).

The said list submitted by Sueno has been verified by Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

“As we utmostly condemn the alleged narcopoliticians, we should also be celebrating these provincial chief executives for showing exemplary management prowess and strong character in thwarting illegal drugs in their territory,” said Andanar as quoted in the report.

How Are These Officials Chosen and Listed?

Sueno said that these governors were chosen in a three-stage screening process done by the Department of Internal and Local Government (DILG).

Marcos and Dy were on the list but was not clear why the two families known for political dynasties were included by the DILG, as these officials in political dynasties must be automatically disqualified.

DILG said that it looks like that these political dynasties “control much of what is going on around them in their locality that information” that might be held to prevent being detrimental to their name.

Meanwhile, there are 41 governors, who have been awarded in the Seal of Good Local Governance by DILG, have been automatically listed in the first stage.

After the second stage, 25 names have been left.

They have been screened for their provincial government’s record in good financial housekeeping, social protection, disaster preparedness, and environment management, peace and order, and their relationship with the business community.

These 25 governors were the only names left to enter the third and final stage of the screening.

Sueno said that these officials will be honored for their “relentless … antidrug campaign efforts.”
