2017 Philippine Holidays – Malacañang Palace issued Proclamation 50 wherein it identified 10 regular and seven special holidays for 2017.

2017 Philippine Holidays

The said regular holidays for the year 2017 include:

  • Jan. 1, New Year’s Day (SUNDAY)
  • April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan (SUNDAY)
  • April 13, Maundy Thursday (THURSDAY)
  • April 14, Good Friday (FRIDAY)
  • May 1, Labor Day (MONDAY)
  • June 12, Independence Day (MONDAY)
  • Aug. 28, National Heroes’ Day (MONDAY)
  • Nov. 30, Bonifacio Day (THURSDAY)
  • Dec. 25, Christmas Day (MONDAY)
  • Dec. 30, Rizal Day (SATURDAY)

 

And the seven special non-working days for 2017 include:

  • Jan. 28, Chinese New Year (SATURDAY)
  • Feb. 25, Anniversary of the EDSA people power revolution (SATURDAY)
  • April 15, Black Saturday (SATURDAY)
  • Aug. 21, Benigno Aquino Jr. Day (MONDAY)
  • Oct. 31, provided to give more time for the All Saints’ Day (TUESDAY)
  • Nov. 1, All Saints’ Day (WEDNESDAY)
  • Dec. 31, last day of 2017(SUNDAY)

In a report by PhilStar, the said proclamation of national holidays will also include two Islamic feasts, Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha. These Islamic feasts will depend on the Islamic calendar, or for whichever possible date.

These holidays need to be informed by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos to the Office of the President for the days to be set.

The holiday on February 25 is a special holiday for schools and celebrate the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The added holiday on the 31st of October is given “to strengthen family ties by providing more time for the traditional All Saints’ Day commemorative activities and promote domestic tourism as well.”

Another thing that the President ordered is that the Department of Labor and Employment needs to give the guidelines regarding holiday pay to workers.

The Republic Act 9482, which moves a holiday to the nearest Monday, except those religious in nature, does not mean to say that the six holidays in the weekends in 2017.

The said proclamation has been already signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on Aug 16, but was just officially released on Aug 18.
