1924 – Philippines have always stood with the giants in Olympic games as Filipino Olympians never fail to leave a mark.

Rooting back to the history of Olympic Games, it was in 1924 when the Philippines started to join the battle of excellent skills in sports. In 1924, the Olympic Games was held in Amsterdam with the Philippines having only one representative.

David Nepomuceno became the man in behalf of the country in the 1924 Olympics. Four years after, the same place was the venue of the 1928 Olympics. A paddler in the name of Teofilo Yldefonso brought pride to the country.

1924

After winning against competing paddlers in men’s 200 meter breaststroke, Yldefonso gave the Philippines its first medal.

Another four years has passed and the 1932 Olympics was held at Los Angeles. That year three bronze medals were brought home as the same paddler, Yldefonso, won again in the same event. Simeon Toribio was victor in men’s high jump and Jose Villanueva in men’s bantamweight.
