10 Pm karaoke ban

In a report by GMA News, Quezon Province Fourth District Rep. Angelina Tan is the one who filed the House Bill 1035, which bans the “use of karaoke, videoke, and other equipment used to amplify sound” in residential areas. However, the said bill allows people to use such equipment from 8 in the morning up to 10 in the evening.

Tan said that this bill would reduce the noise pollution in the country as she said that one of the major sources of noise in residential areas in the Philippines are karaoke systems and the like.

“Everywhere in the Philippines, many local residents or groups are accustomed in utilizing public streets or road sides to gain wider area for a private activity or function, often making use of videoke/karaoke systems, amplified audio devices sheltered on collapsible tents as form of amusement, recreation, or for private audience,” Tan said as quoted by Rappler.

The lawmaker added that such “excessive, unnecessary, or unusually loud sounds” from these sound amplifying systems would cause discomfort to people in the area. Tan added that this matter would affect “health, comfort, convenience, safety, welfare, and prosperity of the general public”.

Once the said bill has been passed to become a law, violators will be penalized with a fine of P1,000 or six months imprisonment of not more than six months.

The said filed bill was actually similar to the current ordinance implemented in Davao City, where President Rodrigo Duterte became a mayor for about 20 years.

Duterte, during his campaign for the May 2016 elections already said that he is going to impose a nationwide karaoke ban after 10 pm.

  1. Karaokes are horrible noise pollutants that reflexes our damaged culture. Karaokes must be played in sound proof rooms so as not to annoy the public. Allowing the people to use the karaokes from 8 am to 10 pm means the public has to bare the noise for 14 hours.of their waking hours. We have a right to peace and quiet and karaokes should be allowed outdoors at anytime.
