In an interview with Aksyon Tonite on TV5, Freddie Aguilar said that he accepted the post while the new department is still on the process.
“Ito kasi ang kahilingan ng ating mahal na pangulo natin, habang hinihintay po natin na mabuo yung departamento ay sinabihan po niya ako kung papayag po muna ako kung pamunuan ko ang NCCA,” he said.
Freddie Aguilar said that he wants a new department because he wants a change in the culture and arts, adding that NCAA cannot do it alone.
The 63-year-old singer also said that Department of Culture and Arts will be helpful in promoting the culture of the Philippines.
“Basta magagamit po ito sa pagpo-promote po ng kultura at sining natin, mag-work hand in hand din po ito sa Department of Education,” he added.
Freddie Aguilar was one of the supporters of President Duterte during the campaign. He was seen performing in several campaign sorties of the former Davao City Mayor.
He also performed the song “Duterte Para Sa Pagbabago” which was used as the official campaign song of President Duterte.
