Philippine Cops Might Get 50k Base Pay

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said that the Duterte administration is planning to increase the basic salary of Philippine cops up to P50, 000.

According to Philstar, Sen. Cayetano said that he already submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte a proposal which contains the pay hike plan which is said to cost the government with an additional of P50 billion.

“We want to double the salary of the PNP (Philippine National Police). For now, (the minimum payment of policemen) is P14, 800 plus a little bit of allowance so they get about P20,000,” the senator said as quoted in the report.

The senator added that the based on their computations, having a P50 billion additional in the budget would make the possible P50, 000, making it the lowest pay.

In the senator’s plan, the salaries of the policemen will increase, and with the salaries of the generals to have more than 100, 000 per month.

He added that this proposal would be funded by the P350 billion to P400 billion unprogrammed funds in the budget next year.

According to Cayetano, the said proposal is very “doable” if there is support from the House of Representatives and the Senate and if the money is already available before Christmas.

Cayetano, who as the Vice-president of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte promised to increase the salary of policemen during his campaign period.

The senator said the cost of living in Metro Manila is about P35, 000 per month and added that the P50, 000 minimum pay would allow these policemen to support their families.
