LRT & MRT Offers Free Rides on June 12, 2016

The Metro Rail Transit 3 and Light Rail Transit 1 and 2 will be offering free rides to the Filipino public on June 12, 2016 as part of the agencies celebration of the Philippine Independence Day 2016. The LRT & MRT Free Rides was announced by top executives of the agencies on their official social media account.

For the past few years, the LRT & MRT offered free rides for passengers during the celebration of the country’s national independence day. The free rides will happen from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or an equivalent of a total of two hours during the said date.

According to Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Atty. Hernando Cabrera the LRT Free Ride is already scheduled for June 12 as he confirmed the good news through Twitter. Aside from LRT, the MRT which runs along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) from North Avenue to Taft Avenue will also offer the free rides on the same schedule.

LRT-1 runs from Baclaran to Roosevelt while Line 2 runs from Recto to Santolan. The LRT-1 trains is one of the major accomplishments by the Marcos administration during his reign as President of the Republic and considered as one of the most modern city transport system in Asia during its inauguration.

Free rides are regularly offered during national holidays, Women’s Day, Veterans Day and Rizal Day among others. June 12 is a regular holiday based on Proclamation 831 (dated July 17, 2014).
