Incoming finance secretary Carlos Dominguez III will be imposing additional taxes on junk food to discourage its consumption, and promote health and boost the revenue of the government.

Carlos Dominguez III defined “Junk food” as foods with low nutritional value and are harmful to everyone. Dominguez would like to include such food items in the coverage of the sin tax law, which covers liquor, cigarettes, and other alcohol and tobacco products.

“Taxes on food items that cause obesity and disease are in our sights. If a product causes health issues, I think people should be discouraged from using it,” Dominguez said.
