In a brief encounter with TV5 correspondent France Noguera on Sunday night, Mayor Duterte made the following comment “Hindi na ako talaga. Sorry ha. Talagang ano ako, boycott,” he said in a video uploaded on Noguera’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. When the 71-year-old outgoing mayor of Davao City was asked to what extent he would blacklist the media, Mayor Duterte said: “Until the end of my term.”

The Mayor himself also noted during the chance encounter that by limiting his interactions with the media, he will be less vulnerable to mistakes. He was quoted as saying “May interview, maraming mali. Marami na namang criticism, so no interview, no criticism, no wrong statement, no nothing. Shut up. Ayoko na talaga,” he said in the video.

Before the announcement of Mayor Duterte that he will no longer hold a press conference or conduct an interview with some private media companies, his head executive assistant Bong Go already released a statement on Friday that the incoming president would no longer hold press briefings and would course statements and announcements through state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV-4).

During the DU31 Victory Party of President-elect Mayor Rody Duterte held in the concert grounds of the Crocodile Park in Davao City, the national media got a taste of how Duterte boycotted the media after security personnel barred the other news media network to set up their equipment inside the venue instead they were instructed to get the video footage from PTV-4 and RTVM.
