Duterte, the first and only president from Mindanao announced his appointment of TV5 broadcaster and veteran radio and TV host Martin Andanar together with his closest aide, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as the newest member of his Cabinet once he seats as President of the Republic of the Philippines.
The outgoing Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte revealed his appointments of Martin Andanar and Bong Go during an interview with Radio Singko on Friday morning. TV5 news anchor Martin Andanar was appointed to head the Presidential Communications and Operations Office, replacing Herminio Coloma Jr.
Mayor Duterte’s closest aide in Davao City, Bong Go was named as Special Assistant to the President “with general supervision over the Presidential Management Staff.” In announcing the appointment of Bong Go, Mayor Duterte even teased his aide whom he described as specializing in “how not to do things the right way.” Bong Go made headlines earlier as the national photobomber because of his presence in almost all every photos of Mayor Rody Duterte.
In an interview over Radio Singko on Friday morning, TV5 News personality Martin Andanar vowed that he will make significant changes in communications offices belonging to the government such as the Philippine Information Agency.
The 41-year-old Martin Andanar is the head of News5 Everywhere, the online news video and audio portal of TV5. Before he will assume his office as a member of the Duterte administration Cabinet, he worked as anchors of Aksyon sa Umaga on TV5 and Punto Asintado Radio Show on Radyo5 92.3 News FM and Aksyon TV, sister stations of TV5.
Martin Andanar studied at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Georgetown University, Northern Illinois, Asian Institute of Management, National University of Singapore and Federation University Australia.
