Veteran lawyer and neophyte lawmaker, Rep. Leni Robredo of Camarines Sur is now the official winner of the Vice Presidential race as she trumped her closest rival, Sen. Ferndinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., with a total of 263,473 votes ahead and she was declared as the winner after the closing of the canvassing of 166 COC’s past 7:00 PM on Friday night.
The victory of Rep. Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo is considered as the sweetest victory ever made by the lawmaker as it coincides with the 58th birthday of her late husband, former DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who died in a plane crash during the year 2012.
Based upon the official count of the Philippine Congress who seated as the National Board of Canvassers, Rep. Leni Robredo got a total of 14,418,817 votes compared to her closest rival Sen. Bongbng Marcos of Ilocos who got 14,155,344.
During Rep. Robredo’s term as congresswoman of Camarines Sur she was able to pass the following pieces of legislation: the Extension of the Corporate Life of the Philippine Railways Corp., the Tax Incentives Management and Transparency Act and the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act.
The incoming Vice President Rep. Leni Robredo also filed her own version of the freedom of information bill, which remains pending in Congress.
The newly-elected Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, won the vice presidency through votes from her bailiwicks in Bicol as well as her strong showing in Western Visayas, which stood against the “Solid North” votes for Sen. Bongbong Marcos.
