The Supreme Court disbars lawyer named Ronald Aguado for gross misconduct and violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility or CPR over the 2010 hijacking and falsification of documents.

On Tuesday, the decision dated April 12 was made public that the high court merit in the petition filed by Pasig City-based Cobalt Resources Inc. (CRI). The said company has accused Aguado before the Integrated Bar of the Philippines of hijacking and falsifying public documents.

The high court in unanimous decision found lawyer Ronald Aguado guilty and mandates that Aguado’s name be stricken off the roll of attorneys.

The SC reminds lawyers to of Canon 1 of the CPR which states that a lawyer “shall not engage in unlawful, dishonest, immoral or deceitful conduct” and “shall not counsel or abet activities aimed at defiance of the law or at lessening confidence in the legal system.” That a lawyer at all times must uphold truth and remain with good moral standing.

The IBP Board of Governors meted on Aguado a two-year suspension as penalty, however CRI file a motion for reconsideration to disbar Aguado yet the board denied the motion which led CRI to file a petition for review before the Supreme Court.

The SC, in their decision held Aguado “clearly” committed the act complained. “Because he failed to live up to the exacting standards demanded of him, he proved himself unworthy of the privilege to practice law,” the Court ruled.
