Richard Gomez Finally Wins Mayor of Ormoc City, Leyte

Actor-turned-politician Richard Gomez proclaimed as mayor of Ormoc City.

Actor-turned-politician Richard Gomez finally won in the election as he was proclaimed as the mayor of Ormoc City, Leyte by the Board of Canvassers (BOC).

The 50-year-old popular actor who ran under the Nationalist People’s Coalition surpassed mayoral race rival and Liberal Party candidate Ondo Codilla.

Based upon the results transmitted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Richard Gomez dominated in mayoralty race with 53,234 votes against Codilla who earned 44,453 votes.

A report of ABS-CBN News noted that Richard Gomez’s election as Ormoc City Mayor marked as his first win after several tries. In 2001, he ran under a party-list group but his candidacy was disqualified by Supreme Court.

He also ventured into higher post as senator but he lost an election in 2007. In 2010, he ran for a seat in the Hose of Representatives but to due to his residency issues, he was disqualified.

In 2013, he ran for the Mayor of Ormoc but he was defeated by Edward Codilla with 3,000 votes slim margin.

Lucy Torres Gomez, the wife of the multi-awarded actor also won her congressional race after winning as the congresswoman of the 4th District of Leyte.

Richard Gomez has yet to issue an official statement regarding his victory.

Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the presidential bet of Richard Gomez is currently dominating in the presidential race with more than 15 million votes followed by Mar Roxas with 9 million votes.

Leni Robredo also leads the vice presidential race followed by Bongbong Marcos, both are now gearing up with 13 million votes.
